ITP Aero’s new 10-year agreement with Pratt & Whitney highlights how aftermarket services are becoming as strategically important as engine manufacturing itself.
When people think about the aviation industry, attention usually goes to new aircraft launches or next-generation engine technology. Yet behind every commercial flight is an enormous maintenance ecosystem that keeps aircraft operating safely and efficiently.
This is why the latest announcement from ITP Aero deserves attention.
The Spanish aerospace company has signed a 10-year component repair agreement with Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, to support the PW1500G and PW1900G engines – both members of the Geared Turbofan (GTF™) engine family.
While the announcement focuses on component repair, its broader significance lies in the continued expansion of the global aviation aftermarket.
Building Long-Term Support for the GTF Fleet
Under the agreement, ITP Aero will perform advanced repairs at its Ajalvir (Madrid) facility.
The company will provide full repair capability for critical engine components, including:
- Inner Diffuser Case Assembly
- * High-Pressure Turbine (HPT) First Stage Cooling Air Duct Assembly (TOBI)
Industrialization is expected to conclude in 2027, with repair capacity increasing throughout 2027 and 2028 as the worldwide fleet continues to grow.
As more GTF-powered aircraft enter airline service, demand for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) will inevitably increase. Expanding repair capability today helps prepare for that long-term operational reality.
More Than Manufacturing
ITP Aero is already a Risk and Revenue Sharing Partner (RRSP) in the GTF program and joined Pratt & Whitney’s global GTF MRO network in June 2025.
This latest agreement expands the company’s role beyond manufacturing into lifecycle support.
Its Ajalvir facility is expected to provide complete MRO services – including testing – for PW1500G and PW1900G engines, with the first engine induction planned for early 2027.
This reflects a broader shift across the aerospace industry.
Manufacturers are increasingly investing in long-term support services rather than focusing solely on producing new hardware. Stable aftermarket revenue, continuous customer relationships, and fleet reliability have become major competitive advantages.
Why Aftermarket Matters
For airlines, aircraft availability directly affects profitability.
Even small improvements in repair turnaround time can reduce aircraft downtime, increase fleet utilization, and lower operating costs.
As fleets mature, maintenance becomes a larger portion of total lifecycle spending than the initial equipment purchase itself.
That makes advanced repair capability not merely a technical function, but a strategic business asset.
